2 Social phobia is a strong fear of being judged by others and of being embarrassed. This fear can be so strong that it gets in the way of going to work or school or doing other everyday things. Definition of Social Anxiety Disorder :

3  Social phobia, involves intense fear of certain social situations—especially situations that are unfamiliar or in which we feel we shall be watched or evaluated by others.

4 Signs and symptoms of social anxiety disorder or social phobia

5 Excessive self-consciousness and anxiety in everyday social situations Intense worry for days, weeks, or even months before an upcoming social situation Extreme fear of being watched or judged by others, especially people you don’t know Fear that you’ll act in ways that will embarrass or humiliate yourself Fear that others will notice that you’re nervous Emotional symptoms of social anxiety disorder or social phobia

6 Red face Shortness of breath Shaking (including shaky voice) Racing heart or tightness in chest Sweating or hot flashes Feeling dizzy Physical symptoms of social anxiety disorder or social phobia

7 Avoiding social situations to a degree that limits your activities or disrupts your life Staying quiet or hiding in the background in order to escape notice and embarrassment A need to always bring a supporter along with you whenever you go in public events Behavioral symptoms of social anxiety disorder or social phobia

9  People who are suffered from social phobia usually has negative thoughts about themselves. Like “I know I am looking like a fool.” “My voice will start shaking and I’ll humiliate myself.” “People will think I’m stupid.” “I won’t have anything to say. I'll seem boring.” Treatment #1: Challenge negative thoughts

10  First thing in treatment is that identify your negative thoughts.  After identifying negative thoughts next step is challenge these thoughts  Stop thoughts like mind reading, fortune telling. People who are suffered from social phobia believe on this sort of negative things.  Try to reduce self-focus. continue

11  When become anxious One of the first changes is that you begin to breathe quickly. Over breathing throws off the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide in your body—leading to more physical symptoms of anxiety, such as dizziness, increased heart rate, and muscle tension. Treatment #2: Learn to control your breath

12  There are many exercises that help you to control your breath when you feeling anxious.  Learn those exercises which are suitable for you which are easy to do.  Do these exercises on regular base.  Also try relaxation exercises with these exercises. Continue

13  Sufferers of social phobia have fears of social situations.  One of the most helpful things you can do to overcome social anxiety disorder, or social phobia, is to face the social situations you fear rather than avoid them. Avoidance keeps social anxiety disorder going.  Try to face fears one by one gradually. Treatment #3: Face your fears

14  Instead of avoiding people try to develop good relation with people.  Talk with different people develop confidence and good image of personality.  When you entered in social situation than people will start talking with you. You don’t need to start discussion in begging. Treatment #4: Build better relationships

15  Try to convert your current lifestyle that is supportive for you to reduce anxiety.  Avoid or limit caffeine. Coffee, tea, caffeinated soda, energy drinks, and chocolate act as stimulants that increase anxiety symptoms.  Quit smoking. Nicotine is a powerful stimulant. Smoking leads to higher, not lower, levels of anxiety. Treatment #5: Change your lifestyle

16  Treatment of social phobia may vary person to person self help may not always help you to over come the anxiety.  In this case psychologist use different therapies on patient. You may also need medication to control anxiety.  Medication only control your anxiety for period of medication so medication and therapy both are used in the treatment. Therapy and medication
