2 Accelerator Safety Summary Summary: Accomplishments: –Previous Year’s Workshops –Position Paper – Defending the Order and Guide –Chicago “Lock-In” –Technical Papers –Draft Order (420.2C) –SLAC Workshop Collaboration: Bringing together a group of people interested in working toward a common goal. SC-NNSA-HSS-GC Goal: Ensure the Department’s Accelerator Safety Program and Accelerator Community have the necessary guidance to operate our facilities safely and efficiently

3 Path Forward Workshop Outcomes –Break-out Group Reports Help define needed improvements Should represent the general consensus of the group Team building / communication Challenges: –Complete Order revision and approval –Begin the process of reviewing and revising the Guide. –Continue using Workshops to improve our Program –Is the Accelerator Safety Program included in the Contractor Assurance System?

4 Order Revision Schedule Lock-in to Approval May 4 to 6/2010 “Order Revision Lock-In” - Author Initial Text for Revised Order (Argonne) May - Disseminate “Draft” 420.2X to each work group Lead (after lock-in) August – Provide “Draft” 420.2X to Accelerator Community and Workshop Members at the SLAC Workshop Sept. - October/ 2010 – Submit Justification Memorandum (JM) November – 2010 Support DRB Mtg. December 2010 - Submit DOE Order 420.2C to Revcom Jan 2011 - Order Comment Resolution Feb 2011 - Submit New Order to DRB March 2011 – Deputy Secretary Approval Schedule is subject to change

5 Proposed Guide Revision Schedule Sept./November 2010 – Guide Technical Teams and Assignments November/December 2010 – Develop a schedule with milestones January/August 2011 - Establish protocols for Technical Teams and Reporting April 2011 – Identify venue and hold a Guide Development work session August 2011 – Present Draft Guide at Accelerator Workshop December 2011-Submit DOE Guide 420.2-1 to Revcom Jan./Feb. 2012 - Guide Comment Resolution March 2012 - Submit New Guide to DRB April 2012 - Deputy Secretary Approval As always – Schedule subject to change
