Friday October 3, 2014 Bell Ringer: AND Using your own words AND pictures define the following phrases: Supplementary Angles Complementary Angles Right Angles Straight Angles
2
What We are Learning Today: To identify special angles formed using parallel lines and a transversal To use special angles to find missing angle measures
3
Definitions: Parallel: Two lines in a plane that never meet Transversal: A line that intersects two or more lines in a plane at different points. Congruent: Equal in measure and size
4
Consecutive Interior Angles: Angles located inside of the parallel lines and on the same side of the transversal Each pair of consecutive interior angles is supplementary. Consecutive interior: 3 & 6, 4 & 5
5
Alternate Exterior Angles: Angles located outside of the parallel lines on opposite sides of the transversal Each pair of alternate exterior angles is congruent. Alternate exterior: 2 & 7, 1 & 8
6
Alternate Interior Angles Angles located inside of parallels and on opposite sides of the transversal Each pair of alternate interior angles is congruent. Alternate interior: 3 & 5, 4 & 6
7
Corresponding Angles: Angles located in the same position on each parallel and on the same side of the transversal Each pair of corresponding angles is congruent. Corresponding: 1 & 5, 2 & 6, 4 & 8, 3 & 7
8
Important: Do not forget about: – Supplementary angles – Complementary angles
