Hotel Positions Many people consider hotels a "home away from home." In order for hotels to provide the best experience possible, employees encompass a wide variety of positions throughout the hotel. bartender spa worker receptionist room service attendant house keeper bell boy/ bellhops concierge

Skills Social/ open-minded Up beat o you see new guests all the time, can't slack Professional Understanding the needs of the different guests Excellent communication skills o meet people from all over the world Handle a variety of tasks at once o hotels are a hectic environment Be able to work unpleasant shifts/ flexibility o overnight; early in the morning

Bartenders Hotel bars are much more of a formal experience with a stricter environment and dress code. Hotel bars can open as early at 11 a.m. Hourly pay o $7-$10 plus tips tips in hotels are usually higher (business people or vacation budget)

Spa workers Ultimate relaxation area Excellent customer service skills Certified o deal with customers' specific needs; knowledge of products/ treatments Salary o $34,000; depending on the hotel

Receptionist Handling reservations o phone/ face-to-face/ fax/ email Checking guests in and out Dealing with complaints or problems from guests Patience Friendly Attention to detail Small hotel versus large hotel Salary o $15,000-$20,000

Bell Boy/ Bellhops Helps guests with their luggage during check-in and check-out. "Porter" is the term used for the UK and other English speaking countries. opening front door moving luggage valeting cars giving directions personable, quick witted, outgoing o working for tips usually a young male hourly pay o minimum wage

Hotel Room Attendants Make sure rooms are clean and tidy. changing bed linens vacuuming and dusting replacing supplies re-stocking mini bar reliable and honest respect for privacy Hourly pay o $7 Housekeepers Responsible for the hotel room attendants. making schedule inspecting rooms recruiting/ training/ supervising Salary o $15,000-$20,000 o $25,000 Little details that matter most for guests

Concierge Not all hotels have a concierge service. More for expensive and luxury hotels. extra services for the guest arranging transportation booking tours help tourists do things they may not know how to do o recommendations to fit the guests' needs expected to do the "impossible" patience excellent communication skills guests must trust you
