Manager’s Philosophy Philosophy and Values (Positive Coaching Alliance) –Honoring the Game/ROOTS of Positive Play (Respect for: Rules, Officials, Opponents, Team and Self) Volunteering –All families MUST get involved!!! –Baseball School, NOT babysitting/daycare or play time Will teach how to play the game the right way Base running philosophy Policy on playing time - missing practices, games, etc. Team commitment Don’t heckle the coach-pitcher!

Expectations - Season All players should hit coach-pitching consistently Some players will hit kid-pitching consistently Players will get hit by pitches –Learn how to protect themselves at the plate All players will rotate through all positions throughout the season (unless safety issue) Fielders will be able to catch ground balls and throw to bases and make outs Pop-flys will be often be caught

Pitching Kids can pitch if they: –Can throw the ball across the plate –Have control –Can catch the ball being returned –Practice at home

Rules Games are combo kid and coach-pitch –1 inning of kid-pitch (3 rd inning) to start, 3 by the end (3-5) –Strikeouts but no walks Coach-pitch innings – kids get up to 5 pitches Kid-pitch innings – coach comes in on Ball 4 or HPB and gives up to 3 pitches No lead-offs or base-stealing Switch after either 5 runs scored or 3 outs made –Runners do not stay on base if they get out Games will be up to 6 innings (1 hour 45 minutes) –6 th inning is an “open’ inning with 10 run max Field 10 positions – Pitcher, Catcher,1B, 2B, SS, 3B, 4 Outfielders

Expectations - Game LOCATION – Lupin Hills Elementary DAY – Sundays only TIMES – 10, 12, 2, 4 (check the APB Website for schedule) Baseball-ready - Baseball pants, jersey (tucked in), sleeves may be worn under jersey, hat, cleats, cup. Arrive at the field 45 minutes prior to game time RAIN – Check the APB Website throughout the day. Do NOT call the coaches as they get all info. from the web site Monitor your comments (to umpires, coaches and players); CHEER for both teams, encourage; NEVER yell at an ump! DON'T FORGET THE WATER!

Expectations - Practices Saturdays, 3:00-5:00 (to start), Lupin - will adjust after Daylight Savings –Arrive 5 minutes early so that you are ready to play at the given start time Rotating stations of fundamental drills and game situations MANY ASSISTANT COACHES NEEDED TO GET THE MOST OUT OF IT –2 pitching stations –2 hitting stations –Infield station –Outfield station –Personal trainers “Baseball-ready” dress - Baseball pants, Dodger shirt or royal blue sleeves, belt, hat, cleats, cup. NO JERSEYS. Go to bathroom BEFORE practice and games Drop off responsibilities – let coaches know if a parent will not be staying Pick-up Responsibilities – be on time, gather your belongings, clean up! DON'T FORGET THE WATER!

Expectations - Players RESPECT - Rules, Officials, Opponents, Team and Self Put forth BEST EFFORT / Hustle LISTEN, FOCUS, PARTICIPATE Practice, practice, practice Have fun!!!

Expectations - Coaches Teach the proper way to play baseball, stress fundamentals, obey the rules Portray a positive role model through communications and actions Communication End of the season, kids will want to play again next season

Expectations - Parents ALL PARENTS MUST VOLUNTEER TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR JOB DUTIES Matters of concern/issues at proper time & through proper channel ON TIME for practice and 45 minutes before game; ready to play ON TIME for job duties PRACTICE with your kids - Repetition, repetition, repetition! Proper equipment for your child (see Equipment page) Label all equipment and check for belongings after practices/games Provide water for your kids for practice and games Cheer for ALL players on both teams DON’T COACH from the stands DON’T RUSH OFF Clean up after games and practices Snacks – don’t hand out until the coaches are ready

Equipment You must supply: –GLOVE – bigger is not better! –BAT – bigger is not better! (See bat selection chart) –HELMET – must have two ear flaps, face cage is optional –BASEBALL CLEATS – no metal or soccer cleats –BASEBALL PANTS - white –BASEBALL SLEEVES – royal blue –CUP –Equipment bag –Batting glove (optional) Philosophy – players must be able to put on themselves League will provide: –UNIFORMS – Jersey, hat, belt,

Use the charts below as a general guideline for determining BAT WEIGHT. Player HeightBat Weight Up to 47”15.5 oz. or less 48-50"16-17 oz. 51-54"17-18 oz. 55-59"18-19 oz. 60+ "19-20 oz. Use the “arm hold” test – a kid should be able to hold their bat horizontally in one extended arm for at least 5 seconds
