I. Be Good To Your Children A. Beneficial, not harmful (Mt. 7:9-12). B. Teach them right from wrong (Gen. 18:17-19, 20ff; Is. 7:16; John 8:28). A. Encourage when obey (Jn 8:29; Eph. 6:1-4; Col. 3:21). B. Spank when they disobey (Eph. 6:4; 1 Kings 1:6; Pr. 13:24; 29:17). II. Children Should Obey Their Parents What Should Father’s Be Like? (Matt. 21:16) C. Respect for authority (Heb. 12:9).

What Should Father’s Be Like? III. A Child Should Learn From His Parents A. Example of loving, spiritual leadership (Eph. 6:1-4; 5:23-31; Matt. 15:4; Deut. 27:16). B. Do not allow misbehavior (lie, steal, kick) (1 Jn. 2:21; Acts 5:1-11; Eph. 4:28; Lk. 3:13-14). (leave unmonitored, not enforce rules, tolerate tantrums, dirty looks, disrespect, etc. - Prov. 29:15) (Matt. 21:16) C. What do our children learn from us? - Home life, worship, work, love of truth? - Smoke, drink, speech …(Matt. 18:6). - Often like us, & more so (Ezek. 16:44-45)!

What Should Father’s Be Like? IV. A Child Should Read The Bible A. Respect & delight in His word (Ps.119:13-16). B. Take time to read & discuss with our children (2 Tim. 1:5; 3:15; Prov. 2:1-9; Ps. 71:17-18)? (Matt. 21:16) CONCLUSION: B. Fatherhood is an opportunity to serve God by serving your family. C. Are you a father that pleases God? A. Fatherhood is more than just having children!
