2 Tuesday, 26 January 2016 PowerPoint Tips 1 AIM: Introduce PowerPoint in context & changing backgrounds PowerPoint is part of Microsoft’s Office programmes and is a very popular (and powerful) tool for making presentations for screen or individual pcs. If you have used Word before then many of the tools for working with text and drawings will look familiar. The most effective PowerPoint presentations are simple and clear. Their appearance can be incredibly varied. Follow these steps to change the background: Press escape on the keyboard to close this presentation. smart Right click on a blank area of the slide to get this menu then left click on background In the background fill menu click on the arrow and explore the Possibilities. Or you could use one of our own templates (like the one this presentation was made with) Look in Intranet / StaffRoom / Resources / PowerPoint Templates

Design templates are built-in to PowerPoint and can be found by clicking on Design in the Formatting toolbar (View / Toolbars / Formatting). It should look like this: If you can’t see it then: tick formatting in the view / toolbars menu Choose a template. When you point to it Click on the arrow that appears to see some options Press escape on the keyboard to close this presentation.

AIM: To insert an image as a background The file size (memory) of your image is important as it will affect how quickly your presentation loads, saves and transfers. If you know how to compress photographs then a JPEG at under 1Mb would be a rough guide. More on images in a later ICTAC tips instalment). To change the background image: R Click / Background / Fill Effects Select the picture tab and then Select Picture. Navigate to the picture you want and click insert
