TYPES OF MATERIALS BORN-DIGITAL Monographs Single compound object Single reference URL Serials Multiple digital file upload Structure (“parent” & “children”) Single reference URL DIGITIZED Monographs Single compound object Single reference URL Serials Single compound object for large size files Structure (“parent” & “children”) for regular size files Single reference URL

DIGITIZED MATERIAL + METADATA Titles and OCLC MARC records with physical materials sent to Internet Archive Internet Archive digitizes the material and uses metadata sent by us as well as additional information from our library catalog using Z39.50 protocol We grab the digital objects and metadata file and load them through the CONTENTdm Project Client We add additional preservation metadata Depending on the file size we may choose to upload serial issues on the parent/child structure or as a single monographic compound object

ACCESS + DISCOVERY How does our metadata lead to better discovery? Consistent and clean metadata across all fields and records Regular metadata clean-up Controlled vocabularies – constant update and clean-up Related items – paper records linked to digital records and vice versa Extra field - serial title field - to pull together and give extra access for large size digitized serials Agency-current field (with controlled vocabulary)
