8. TERN Eco-informatics has developed a DOI Minting Client that interfaces with the TERN Central DOI Minting Service API. In common with many other national and international initiatives such as DataONE (www.dataone.org) in the US, TERN Eco-informatics is concerned with the ongoing management of the large numbers of datasets covering the “long tail” of funded research. The “long tail” refers to the many thousands of small projects with small, discrete datasets as compared to the few large national databases that form the core of ÆKOS.
