Careers of the Future “The Future Isn’t what it used to be” Technology vs. Productivity A general term for advances resulting from improvements in work methods that increase productivity. The value of a completed product in relation to it’s costs, must increase for a company to stay competitive. In the early 1900’s farmers made up more than 1/3 of the US workforce. Today farmer’s make up less than 3% of the US workforce Why is this?

Careers in the Future Does today’s doctors have the same job description as a doctor 50 years ago? Careful research into job titles and descriptions of potential careers will help you prepare for making career decisions. Job Analysis What jobs do you already have in mind? Have you done a job analysis? Typically you will change careers at least once in your lifetime so being knowledgeable about which career is best for you will help you in the long run.

Job Analysis Positive features of employment Salary- amount of monthly or annual pay for which you are hired Each company had different pay schedules (ie, monthly, weekly, bi-monthly) Benefits-include sick pay, vacation time, profit-sharing plans, health insurance provisions, and other company related incentives. Promotion-the ability to advance in a career

Job Analysis Negative features of Employment Employee expenses- these include any costs to be paid by the employee that are not reimbursed by the employer (ie, work uniforms) These expenses may be tax-deductable Work characteristics- these include routine changing tasks, indoor vs. outdoor, working alone or with a team, job pressure, work time, and company rules and policies.
