Background of Dance Widdifield Secondary Dance Studio –Widdifield has been teaching dance to students for about 15 years –Mrs. McDiarmid was my supervisor; she is a qualified dance teacher, a special education specialist and is working towards her guidance specialist

Background of Dance Continued A dance teacher works: –Monday to Friday with up to 3 classes –Must be a certified teacher, a trained dancer, have first aid, fire safety, etc. –$35-80 000, working with high school students –Teachers get to help students learn new things, yet they must mark them on their learning ability

My Background of Dance I have been trained in dance as well as other dance related areas –I have taken dance classes for roughly 9 years and a trained competitive gymnast for 10 years –I have been dancing at Widdifield Secondary School since grade 9 and have performed in 5 Artsfests as well as been on the school dance team for 2 years

Tie Course & Expectations My co-op placement is tied to a dance course; ATC 2O In dance a co-op student is expected to be a good role model and to be professional about everything as well as to create a dance –For example… as a co-op student I was expected to create a dance for both of my classes to be performed in artsfest

Teaching Assistant As a teaching assistant my job was to –Help my supervisor to teach the dance students –Lead the class in warm-ups as well as dance classes –Provide feedback when necessary

Artsfest What is Artsfest? 1.A school event that showcases student talent for people throughout community to see 2.My role in Artsfest was to create and teach dances to both of the grade 9 classes and to do their introductory dance with them when performing 3.As well I was in charge of bringing the students backstage and make sure that they were ready to perform on time

My ISU Who & what? –When creating my ISU, I got help from the students that I taught, my supervisor and a few other dancers for feedback –My task was to create dances for Artsfest for my grade 9’s to perform

My ISU Continued In order to create my dances, I had to… –Figure out what type of dance I was going to create –Find a good song that was suitable for the grade nines to dance to –Know what sort of dance steps the classes had learned and know if I had to teach anything new –Decide what the students would wear when performing on stage

My ISU Continued When, where & why? –I started working on my dances at the beginning of the semester –Teaching the dances took place in the dance studio –The task I completed is important to my employer because she marks the students based on their performances in Artsfest
