4. Types of Industry Primary – Extracting or harvesting only of natural materials Ex. Mining, farming, ranching, logging, oil extraction, fishing Secondary – Processing of natural materials into a finished product. Ex. Wood into paper, fish into microwavable dinners, iron ore into cars, rubber into tires.

5. Types of Industry Tertiary – Simply means the SERVICES. People and businesses who do things and NOT make products. Ex. Lawyers, sales clerk, nurse, teacher, mechanic, plumber. Quaternary – the newest sector. Came about because of advances in telecommunications and the Internet. Deals with “information” and research & development. Ex. Web developers, telephone and internet providers, call centers, consultants.
