4 Learn more at FIRSTBOOK.ORG -Access to New Books for Children in Need -100 Million Books Distributed -Studies show that interest in reading more than triples among children who received new books from First Book -Tackle the single biggest barrier to the development of literacy- access to books -We don’t want to fight illiteracy, we want to end it to create a generation of lifelong readers and achievers Every $10 we raise is 4 New Books WAIT, WHAT IS FIRST BOOK?

5  We have an all new exec board. Our old president and secretary resigned and positions were shifted.  Homecoming week (banner contest and Renegade Recess)  Retirement Community Volunteering  Maryland Oaks was last years grant recipient, however they were not cooperative and failed to accept the grant in time, so we unfortunately had to stop working with them.  What was Maryland Oaks? Can we still help them in the future?  We tabled at Market Wednesday- it was unsuccessful and there are better methods so it will not be continued  As you can see, not much got done, but that is going to CHANGE! WHAT YOU MISSED

7  Tabling at Market Wednesday  $1 donations in return for a “donated by” sticker with their name on it and a piece of cake with out logo  April 10 th  Shifts! Service Hours! (hour for hour)  10am-1pm  E-mail firstbookfsu@outlook.com with what shift you are available for!firstbookfsu@outlook.com  Main goal: raise awareness and get our club known on campus LITERACY WEEK AWARENESS

8  Every year one grant recipient gets the opportunity to get new books from the head organization. We distribute/collect the applications and send them to headquarters. Once a new recipient is picked, we will distribute the books and read to the children.  At least 80% of its children come from low income families or are Title 1 level schools  Books go home with the children  Non discriminatory  Six months  Register online  If you have any ideas of who would be a good recipient, e-mail firstbookfsu@outlook.com. If your organization is picked for next year you will receive one service hour. firstbookfsu@outlook.com GRANT RECIPIENT

9  Communities and Schools  CIS is a private, nonprofit organization  Empower Students to Stay in School and Achieve in Life  Children's Home Society  Protect and heal children, build and strengthen families, rescue and embrace teens struggling to survive on their own.  To help children grow up safe, healthy, and prepared for life  Boys Town  Youth with special care needs and cared for in Foster Family Services and provides in home family services to troubled families. They have five family homes in Tallahassee. In these homes, youth learn independent living skills that help them find success with their families, in school and in their community.  Oasis Center for Women  Improve the lives of women and girls through celebration and support. They offer services for girls year round.  Westgate Community  Opening soon  Low Cost Housing Community POSSIBLE GRANT RECIPIENTS

10  Executive Position: Recipient Group Liaison  Facilitates contact between Advisory Board and recipient groups.  Help with the application process, picking the recipient, and keeping in contact with their organization.  E-mail Firstbookfsu@outlook.com by Saturday March 30 th !Firstbookfsu@outlook.com  Answer in e-mail: Why do you want this position?
