Ministry Strategy 201, Class 4 The Strategy of Spiritual DNA
2
Guest Lecturer Phil Taylor is the XP of Mosaic Church in Orlando, Florida. After several years as a Lead Pastor, Phil realized that he could be more effective for God in the Second Chair role and has spent the last ten years as an Executive Pastor. He planted Terra Nova Church in New York and watched it grow into a thriving church with two campuses. In 2013, Phil accepted the call to Mosaic Church where he is enjoying the fast-paced, always challenging environment of a large, multi-campus church. He also co-leads Acts 29 Network’s Florida Region. He is working on his first book for Executive Pastors.

Class 4—The Strategy of Spiritual DNA Every church has its own unique spiritual DNA. Phil has been an XP in upstate New York and now is in Orlando. Talk about radically different cultures! What is the uniqueness of his past church, Terra Nova, compared with his current church, Mosaic? How do those churches fit into the local demographic and how do they desire to transform it? Learn from Phil’s “school of hard knocks” and his seasons of God’s favor in the strategy of spiritual DNA.

internalizing the dna (terra) -live there -don’t go to far from who you are naturally (indigenous vs. missionary) -find a book on the history of the area -start the church yourself -determine the dna of LP
22
Internalizing dna (mosaic) Phase 1- Acclimate and Evaluate Timing-1-3 months. Goal: Gain a thorough, deep and wide picture of the entire church and staff team. Soak up and internalize Renaut's vision. Gain an early sense of what is needed. Address critical pain points.
23
Internalizing dna (mosaic) Two meetings with every staff member. 1.The “get to know you” meeting (casual over dinner). 2.The “what do you do?” meeting (more formal interview style). dinner with each lay elders/pastors, and other key lay leaders. 30 families over for dinner in 45 days.
24
Internalizing dna (mosaic) Attend everything Ask a million questions of everyone Preach twice Read everything from the church Watch everything on youtube channel
25
getting inside renaut’s brain Weekly 2-3 hours with Renaut for 3 months Travel with Renaut Social time with our families Read books that he identified as having a huge impact on him Listen to key sermons from archive
26
Planning Phase 2- Analyze and Strategize Timing- one month, culminating in a personal retreat Goal: create and refine a highly detailed (but flexible) timeline for the next three years at mosaic. Share it with Renaut and then key staff and leaders
