5. Do not overburden yourself… When you are starting out, focus on a few things. Choose one style of debate and one or 2 IE’s… 2-5 tournaments a semester. Set realistic Goals. Your sophomores probably aren’t going to win Emory…

7. Recruiting… How do you do it? I suck at this! It’s so hard without a class… Here are my suggestions: a) Teach Honors 9 th graders… b) Get them to a tournament about 5 minutes after they come in your classroom. c) Let students get crushed. Even the really smart ones. d) Give me your tired, your weary… But they need a computer. e) Don’t fight for band kids. f) Friends and family. g) 8 th grade visits/ demo debates.
