Title a page in your lab journal: Observations and Inferences Write a heading: Cat and Bird Picture. Write 4 sentences about the following picture.

W RITE THE FOLLOWING ON YOUR WORKSHEET : 1. Definition of observation: Information gathered using your 5 senses. Data, Evidence, “Facts”; NO OPINIONS INVOLVED 2. Provide an example.

W RITE THE FOLLOWING ON YOUR WORKSHEET : 3. Definition of Inference A conclusion based on observations, other information or past experiences. Conclusions, Claims Rational Based on facts, but includes “opinion” – bias. Provide an example.

Look at your 4 sentences about the “Cat and Bird Picture”. Label each sentence as an observation (O) or an inference (I).

O BSERVATION I NFERENCE W ORKSHEET : You’ll be recording observations and inferences about the next picture in the chart. Aim for at least 5 statements. You should have more observations than inferences.
