2 Primary objective: Students will explore how plants manufacture food by utilizing air, water, and energy from the sun. Primary objective: Students will explore how plants manufacture food by utilizing air, water, and energy from the sun. Procedure: Small groups hubs (3 students) will be available for students to simultaneously explore the different aspects of Photosynthesis and Plant make-up. Whole Class Activity: Reaching for the Sun: Half of the plants will be place in the sun on the window sill and the other half will be place in the dark part of the room. This activity will encourage scientific thinking through predictions and hypothesis. Individual Activity: Observe and Report: Over the course of the Unit (4 weeks) students will take 5 min at the end of each week to measure their plants, and record their data using a table and pictograph

3 Students will use the data they collected over the past 4 weeks to create a line graph to report their findings to compare each group’s plant growth. Students will use the data they collected over the past 4 weeks to create a line graph to report their findings to compare each group’s plant growth. Students will create a pictograph that represents the data collected during their observations. Students will use pictures to represent each measurement. For example, one picture is equal to 2cm. What should you do if you only measured 1cm? What should you do if you only measured 1cm?

5 Primary Objective: Students will explore how shape and structure of a birds’ beak affect how and what it eats. Primary Objective: Students will explore how shape and structure of a birds’ beak affect how and what it eats. Procedure: Students will understand what an Adaptation is through an experiment where they will use a variety of tools that will suffice for a bird’s beak to determine which ones will work best to transfer different food items. 7 Using Data from NOAA students will predict the return of the Atlantic Sturgeon to the Hudson River estuary.

8 This is the graphic organizer (T-chart) that the students will use to record their answers from the video about animal adaptation. They will write down the different types of adaptation, along with examples. This will give them an idea in order to further expand their knowledge.
