2. PAYDAY!!! You are a hard working colonist in one of the 13 original colonies. The amount of candy you receive equals the amount of money you made that week. 1 candy piece = $1.00 WAIT!!!!!!!WAIT!!!!!!! THERE ARE TAXES TO BE PAID.

3. TAX #1 By order of King Coach Carpenter’s, any colonist wearing a navy shirt must pay a tax of $3.00 to King Coach Carpenter’s governor.

4. TAX #2 By order of King Carpenter’s, any colonist wearing khaki pants, shorts, or skirt must pay a tax of $1.00 to the governor.

5. TAX #3 By order of King Coach Carpenter’s, all colonists wearing running shoes must pay a tax of $2.00 to the governor.

6. TAX #4 By order of King Coach Carpenter, all male colonist must pay a tax of $1.00 to the governor.

7. THAT’S NOT FAIR!!!!!! Were the colonist able to have any representation or opinion for what King Coach Carpenter would be taxed and how much? Who ended up with the most money/candy? Was this fair or unfair?

8. That’s Not Fair!!! Wars cost $$$$; England was in debt over $2 million from the French & Indian War. To pay off its war debts, British Parliament passed several laws to tax the colonists. Colonists had no representation in Parliament on what was taxed. Colonists vowed to protest and fight “No Taxation Without Representation”. “No Taxation Without Representation” was a major cause of the American Revolution.

13. King George III King George III was the King of England during the American Revolution. Parliament and King George III decided that the American colonists should be heavily taxed to pay off England’s war debt In America, King George III became a hated figure when he sent British troops to enforce unpopular British taxes and laws. King George III opposed the colonists desire for political and financial freedom because he feared their example of disobedience would spread to other parts of the British Empire.

14. Remember Mercantilism???? Mercantilism SUCKS!!!!! The British Parliament followed the economic policy of mercantilism. Mercantilism is the economic system in which colonies are forced to provide natural resources and income to their “parent” country. The British Parliament expected colonists to sell cash crops like cotton & tobacco and other natural resources to England to be manufactured. In exchange, the colonists were expected to buy the expensive manufactured goods. This would bring more money back to England and not the colonies. The colonist wanted Free Enterprise, and they thought Mercantilism SUCKS!!!!

15. Proclamation Line of 1763 To prevent Native American attacks on colonists, King George III & Parliament passed the Proclamation Line of 1763 law. King George III claimed he couldn’t pay soldiers to protect colonists if they moved west past the Appalachian Mountains. Colonist were upset because many male colonists fought and died in the French & Indian War for the right to settle in the Ohio River Valley.

16. “No Taxation Without Representation” Parliament taxed colonists without permission to pay the cost of the French & Indian War. Colonists believed as citizens of England, their permission was needed before new taxes were passed. Colonists believed they were not being represented in Parliament. “No Taxation Without Representation!” became a popular slogan for protesting American colonists.

17. The Sugar Act, 1764 Taxed sugar, molasses, and imported goods. Taxes hurt colonial businesses because many colonists decided to buy cheaper smuggled goods.

19. The Stamp Act, 1765 Taxed printed items (newspapers, books, playing cards, documents, etc.) Items had to be stamped to prove paid tax. Colonists rioted & boycotted English goods. The Sons of Liberty, a patriot group led by Samuel Adams, formed to protest the taxes. Due to massive protesting and boycotting, the Stamp Act was later repealed (cancelled).

21. Samuel Adams Leader of the patriot group the “Sons of Liberty”. This groups was formed to encourage the colonists to boycott British goods. Helped organize the “Boston Tea Party” and several protests and boycotts…also tarred and feathered more than a few tax collectors. Organized the “Committees of Correspondence”, a group that spread news throughout the colonies.

23. The Townshend Act, 1767 Townshend Act was replacement to Stamp Act. Taxed glass, lead, and paint. Sons of Liberty, led by Sam Adams, protested and boycotted English taxed items. So…he sent troops over to Boston to watch over them. This sets ups the next confrontation. All taxes were later repealed (cancelled).

27. Boston Tea Party, 1773 The Sons of Liberty disguised as Native Americans boarded 3 ships in Boston Harbor. Led by Samuel Adams, the patriot group dumped all British tea overboard in protest of the Tea Act. As a result, King George III decided to punish the colonist.
