Aim: How do plant cells photosynthesize to make food? DO NOW: 1. What color do chloroplasts, in plant cells, have? Why? 2. What is the purpose of this pigment, in chloroplasts, in plant cells?
2
Organelle? Chloroplasts of plant cells
3
Photosynthesis CO 2 + H 2 O + sunlight C 6 H 12 O 6 + O 2 Chemical Equation Carbon Dioxide + Water + Sunlight Oxygen + Glucose Word Equation __________________________________________ Q: What are the reactants & products in this chemical reaction?

Guard Cells & Stomates GUARD CELLS in plant cells control the opening & closing of the STOMATES (pores) in the leaves of plants Important to prevent too much water from being lost on a hot day Carbon dioxide is also allowed in, by way of these guard cells & stomates

Xylem & Phloem The “circulatory system” of plants Tissues, made of cells, that are involved in transport & which are located in vascular bundles Xylem cells transport water & dissolved minerals up the plant Phloem cells transport nutrients, like glucose sugars, & other molecules, created by plants, down the plant Tree sap comes out of phloem tissue Xylem dies and has to be created again, but phloem is always alive!
