2  “A wiki is a collection of web pages that can be edited by anyone, at any time, from anywhere” (Fountain, 2005).  The word “wiki” actually means “quick” in Hawaiian.  A wiki can also be simply described as a collaborative web site.  Wikis can be used as a web site to post information or to collaborate with students, classmates, or co-workers.

3  Step 1: o Choose a wiki web site. Options include: www.wikispaces.com www.wetpaint.com www.pbwiki.com www.wikispot.org www.intodit.com o I chose www.wikispaces.com for this presentationwww.wikispaces.com

4  Go to www.wikispaces.comwww.wikispaces.com o Choose which product is best for you: Wikis for Organizations or Wikis for Individuals or Groups o I chose Wikis for Individuals and Groups

5  Sign up is extremely easy: o Decide on an username, enter a password, and provide an e-mail address o Click on “Join Now”

6  Choose and enter a name for your wiki. Think carefully about the URL you are about to create. I used “presentation-example for demonstration purposes.

7  Grant permissions: o Public (free) – Everyone can view and edit your pages o Protected (free) – Everyone can view pages, only wiki members can edit them o Private (first 30 days free) – only wiki members can view and edit pages

8  Choose your wiki type:  Then click on the button to create a new wiki

9  Getting started: o Click on the edit button to put your own content on the page. o To invite new members, click on Manage Wiki and Invite People o To change your wiki’s colors or theme, click on Manage Wiki and Look and Feel o To set who can view and edit your wiki, click on Manage Wiki and Permissions

10  Edit with simple tools o Edit any page of your wiki right in your web browser  Add files, images, and media o Upload images, documents, audio files, video, and more – and add them directly to your page  Track revisions o Work is never lost because every revision of every page is SAVED.
