Activities Use repeated patterns when making wall paper. (Painter/decorator) and posters for shops. Explore form by making simple candles for Divali and Christmas celebrations using moulding wax. Make salt dough cakes and biscuits after visiting the bakery in Flint. Use these for role play. Combine individual collages of shops of own choice to make a street scene. Find relevant pictures to cut and paste from magazines or clip art. Assemble cone people or finger puppets of community helpers such as the nurse, dentist, fire fighter etc. and use these in the puppet theatre. Some pupils will be able to make advertising posters for their shop. Use the photocopier to make repeated images, and to reduce or enlarge images. Use cookery and kitchen implements to print menus for the café. Print around the edges of paper plates (turning patterns) or decorate with dried flowers/herbs. Follow up the work on the farmer by printing with vegetables. Follow up the work on the hairdresser by making patterns with combs and brushes. ‘Paint’ fences and play equipment outside with real brushes. Emphasise the need to cover the whole area, and to be tidy because you are working for someone else. Adapt familiar songs to incorporate themes from the topic e.g. ‘this is the way the ….’ Dress up and engage in role playing fire fighters, police officers etc. to explore different safety and social concepts ICT Use mark making and creative packages on the pc/IWB to record experiences. RE/SMSC Begin to recognise feelings of awe and wonder at the variations in the natural world. Be aware of other cultures in the world.
