Our analysis of what students do well validates their knowledge of writing as it informs and directs our strategic, rigorous instructional decisions for whole groups, small groups and with individuals.

This model is in development for state roll-out, a writing support simulation (a way of teaching that totally immerses the learning into the teacher’s hands). Coaching for writing success Transferring the information to the teacher as we are coaching for student writing achievement (growth mindset instead of fixed mindset)

That was then… Historically, we have been great at identifying and supporting behaviors that prepare for a test - rather than prepare quality writing instruction. This is now… When we consider expectations for success, we mean the level 4, grade 12 description.

Students need many opportunities to develop effective composing strategies. Writing instruction happens through strategic writing exercises: Close reading Exercises in graphic organizers Cut and paste Writing instruction happens, at its best, through REvision.

Independent and Collaborative Learning In groups of 4 to 5 teachers: annotate papers based on the writing elements identify teaching point based on the elements plan and practice a lesson to present to whole group
