Geronimo An Apache warrior who led a group off the reservation, and evaded capture for years.

Sarah Winnemucca A Paiute Indian who became one of the first to call for reforms in the way that the US Government treated Indians.

The Pony Express A system of messengers on horseback that carried mail from one relay station to another. Telegraph lines put it out of business.

The Golden Spike was hammered in at Promontory, Utah, where the two great railroad lines met.
