In the history of the United States of America, slavery lasted from 1500 to 1865 upon the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation and that would make a total of over 300 years too long. The signing of the Emancipation Proclamation did not free all slaves, the document only freed slaves in 9 out of 10 state in slavery continued for two more years.

2. Does slavery still happen in the world today?
Yes! Slavery still exists today. Whether it is called human trafficking, forced labor, it is present worldwide, including within the United States
An estimated million people are caught in one or another form of slavery. Between 600,000 and 800,000 are trafficked internationally, with as many as 17,500 people trafficked into the United States. Nearly three out of every four victims are women. Half of modern-day slaves are children.

Consider what freedom would mean to a slave.
Imagine you are a slave dreaming of freedom. Draw a picture that represents freedom.
Then write sentences about how life would be if you were free. (example)

- Meant for them to dress in disguise, or put on a change of clothes.

14. Log Cabin Block
- A secret symbol that could be drawn on the ground indicating that a person is safe to talk to. It also advises seeking shelter.

15. Bear Paw
Meant for them to take a mountain trail, out of view and follow the path made by bear tracks. The tracks would lead them to water and food.
