The 4 C’s Determine Diamond Grade and Value Cut Refers to a diamond’s reflective qualities, not shape Angles and number of facets determine how diamond reflects light In well-cut diamonds, light from the top, reflects from one side to the other, and out the top. In poorly cut diamonds, light from the top and “leaks” out the bottom. Clarity Refers to a diamond’s flaws Air bubbles Cracks Diamonds range from Ugly to included 3(Flaw seen by your eyes Color Refers to the color No color more valuable Graded from d to z Fancy colors don’t follow those rules

4 C’s Cont. Carat Refers to the unit of weight by which a diamond is measured The greater the weight the more expensive the diamonds (all other characteristics being equal)

Buyer Beware of “Treated” Diamonds and Caring for Diamonds Filled with glass Heated for color Turns yellow then fancy, color may change overtime Painted for color Wears off Easily detectable After getting the diamond, care for it so it doesn’t get scratched or damaged. Diamonds can crack, They should be stored and not touching anything. Finally, use a jewelers polishing cloth to clean it.
