Local Winds Generally move short distances and can blow in any direction Caused by geographic features that produce temperature differences
3
Air moves from the ocean to the land creating a sea breeze
Sea Breezes High pressure is created over the ocean during the day and low pressure over land due to uneven heating Air moves from the ocean to the land creating a sea breeze
5
Land Breezes Low pressure occurs over the ocean during the night and high pressure over land due to the uneven heating of earth This causes wind to move from the land to the ocean creating a land breeze
7
Valley Breeze Occurs in the daytime when air along mountain slopes is heated more intensely than air at the same elevation over a valley floor. It is an up slope movement.
8
Valley Breeze Since wind generally blows from west to east, the westward side of a mountain will usually be cloudier with more moisture. As the air sinks on the east side of the mountain, it generally cools and dries.
9
Mountain Breeze Occurs in the night time when air in the mountains cools first and sinks into the valley. It is a down slope movement.
10
What is the difference between a land breeze and a sea breeze?
