2016 Coach Mentoring Program Application Our LSC wants to acknowledge our coaches as professionals. We want to instill in them the knowledge that they are indeed smart, informed, talented, and of course good looking! (You always look better when you have that special swagger that comes with knowledge and success) Continuing Education is the Tool! The 2016 Coach Mentoring Program Will be the Catalyst.

Our LSC Will be Very Aggressive With This Program We Will Match the USA Swimming Contribution by an Even 100% We Will Take 1 Payment at the End of the Year

Our “call to arms” that will go out to every coach: COACHING is a PROFESSION....increase your specialized educational training! "A profession is a vocation founded upon specialized educational training, the purpose of which is to supply objective counsel and service to others, for a direct and definite compensation, wholly apart from expectation of other business gain".. Coaching is not just a job…or a way to make a few extra bucks..as a coach you may have a greater impact on the swimmers you lead every day, than possibly any other single person in their lives. That is a huge responsibility, but it is also fun – rewarding – and satisfying. This is YOUR year! Step up your game a notch, and get that swagger we talked about…all while we pay it forward!

One on One Mentoring A one on one mentoring plan will be available for any coach within the LSC to visit with any other coach within the LSC, for at least a 3 hour session, to observe and ask questions. The mentor would be eligible for an end of the year gift card based on how many mentoring sessions they do over the year, and the visiting coach would receive reimbursement for any travel expenses (mileage) plus their club could receive up to $100 depending on how many hours they stayed. These sessions would be worked out between the 2 clubs or coaches, with reimbursement pending submission of a check list signed by both the mentoring coach and the visiting coach. Club of mentoring coach could earn $100. ($100 for 3 hour session - $50 for 2 hour session - less than 2 hours – no payment) Each club may send 1 coach to mentor with any other USA coach, for 2 days, at any club within US Swimming on our side of the Mississippi River. Upon receipt of a written “daily diary”, along with at least 5 photos, of what was learned and how it will be implemented into the mentees program, we will reimburse travel and lodging expenses. Coaches will arrange mentoring sessions between themselves. This request must be pre-approved by the LSC Office and the Club Development Chair. Coach & Mentor will submit Request for Reimbursement Form, attaching mentoring checklist, receipts if applicable and documentation as required where applicable.

Roundtable Forums with Guest Moderators The LSC will sponsor a Series of Roundtable discussions with a guest coach moderator, we do not want speakers to just speak at these events, we want coaches to openly talk among themselves and discuss the topics of the forum, moderated by a coach who is acknowledged as a leader in whatever the topic area is for that session. We will use the 9 Points that Make a Coach Great, as the basis of topics for our discussions These roundtables would be open to all coaches not just from our LSC – but visiting coaches attending our meets. These forums would be held at least 4 times during the year, at various meet locations, after the meet sessions are complete for the day. Food would be provided, as these workshops would probably be held when coaches would normally be going off to eat. In addition, each LSC attendee would earn $50 for attending to cover any costs for travel to attend. Coach Moderators, if from our LSC would earn $100 for their club – out of LSC coach moderators would receive an honorarium.. This program would be run by the LSC Coach Representative and would have a theme that would focus on 9 topics - weaving in anything from stroke techniques to how to write a practice and plan for a season – to communication with parents. A club wishing to host a Coaches Roundtable in addition to the 4 that would be LSC sponsored, could submit a request to the Coach Representative telling them: who the moderator would be; where and when it would be; would there be an LSC paid honorarium the guest moderator would charge or expect if they are out of LSC; in conjunction with what meet or event would the roundtable be held; what would the topics be; and an estimated number of attendees. Roundtables held at meet venues should not pay any rental or facilities fees. Hosting club could earn $300 depending on number of attendees (Must be at least 8 clubs represented). LSC will host a “Coaching Ladies” Luncheon and Forum, with a Lady Coach Guest Moderator. Clubs will earn $50 for each Lady Coach from their team who attends. Ladies will get – lunch and travel expenses up to $50.! Lady Coaches with more than 10 years experience would be 1 to a table to share personal stories and answer individual questions of less experienced ladies at their table. LSC will host a Special Breakfast Forum for Minority Coaches and Coaches of Outreach and Minority Swimmers. Clubs will earn $50 for each coach who attends. Attendees will get – breakfast and travel expenses up to $50. Payments will be made directly from the attendance sign in sheets, as provided by the LSC Coaches Representative. Request for Reimbursement Form is needed only for Travel Expenses.

Continuing Education Tools Every Club will have a $4,000 Coach Education Bank, for the entire year. They will use this fund to be reimbursed for attending ASCA, ISCA, Regional Coaches Clinics and any other USA Affiliated Coaching Clinics. LSC will invite new USA Swimming partner, David Benzel, Growing Champions for Life to speak to our coaches at our Spring HOD Coaches Meeting. “Coaching Revolution Workshop” Each club can earn $100 for each coach who achieves their ASCA Level 1 or Level 2 during the year The LSC will reimburse a coach the expenses incurred to achieve Level 3 and above. Each club can earn $100 per coach who achieves Level 3 or above during the year. Coaches will be encouraged to become, or re-certify as, a Certified Meet Director, which also requires taking and passing the Admin Officials test. This gives a coach a much better understanding of the “other side” of a swim meet. Earn $100 for the coach and $100 for their club Coaches who Watch and Listen to USA Swimming Coaching Webinars – can submit a single paragraph from each webinar, of what was learned that they honestly never knew – but will implement on a trial basis in their practice planning. Submission will earn $25 for the coach for each webinar – up to $100, and $25 for their club for each webinar their coaches “attend” up to $300. Coaches will submit a Request for Reimbursement Form accompanied by receipts, documentation as required, and any copies of certifications if applicable.
