The New SAT: Highlights of Changes Starting in March, 2016, CollegeBoard will begin offering its newest version of the SAT, its first test revision in eleven years. The changes are significant: *Test scoring reverts to the 1600-Point model. 800 Math. 800 Reading/Writing. *Multiple choice answers reduced from five (ABCDE) to four (ABCD). *Fewer sections on the New SAT (4) versus the Old SAT (8 plus mandatory essay). *No longer any penalty for an incorrect answer. *Evidenced-Focused Reading and Writing. More contemporary speeches and texts, plus graphs and charts to analyze. Progressive questioning (Answers can rely on former questions.) Analysis, not Memorization Historical documents (Birmingham Jail Letter) Scientific graphs *Sentence Completion section is eliminated. Obscure vocabulary memorization no longer emphasized. No more memorizing words for test only
33
The New SAT: Highlights of Changes *Essay becomes an optional 50-minute section at end of exam. Longer due to analysis, no longer persuasive opinion Prompt available on website (somewhere), the document changes Similar to primary sources on Social Studies AP *Math will contain a calculator section (55”) and a non-calculator section (25”). Gridded sections remain. *Math will contain more graphs and charts, including data more science-oriented in terminology. More time per problem on the calculator section, Heart of algebra (algebra) Problem solving and data analysis (statistics) Passport to Advanced Math (stem careers)
