Motivation and Management From Day 1 to Day 100 Presented by Amy Geis

Active Learning Students learned about rhyming words and Dr. Seuss throughout the week. Students were given the opportunity to sample green eggs like Sam I Am. I dressed as Cat in the Hat for the 100 th day of school to further engage student learning.

Motivation Students practiced counting to 100 all year long so they could sign this special sign!

Motivation Students were motivated to create a 100 th day project of their choice. These amazing projects were created by extremely motivated students!

Motivation & Management Students receive a special treat for being 100 days smarter. Students strive to make good choices so Zero the Hero will visit on the 100 th day! Students actively engage in learning with this 100th day popcorn graph.

Management My mentor teacher uses this classroom management system to encourage positive behavior and social interaction. Students are given four puzzle pieces at the beginning of each day and are encouraged to keep their puzzle intact throughout the day. Students who have kept their puzzle piece intact all day are given a reward periodically for doing so. An example of the reward might be shoes off for the day. Students exhibiting inappropriate behavior lose puzzle pieces if the desired behavior is not reached after several redirections and a warning. If the inappropriate behavior continues one puzzle piece is removed and the student misses 5 minutes of a favored activity i.e. recess or free explore. Two puzzle pieces removed results in a loss of an activity for 10 minutes. Three puzzle pieces means the students phone his/her parent to discuss the choices being made at school. Four puzzle pieces removed means a conference or meeting is held. The theme of the board is changed each month which creates an excitement for students and evokes a positive reflection on the management of the classroom.

Management This behavior management chart helps one student in my mentor teacher’s class stay organized and motivated to follow the classroom schedule and listen and participate attentively during circle time. The student earns tickets for staying on task and listening. Ten tickets can be used to receive a prize! Tickets can be taken away as a consequence.
