Here we Are…. We are located here in Washington…..

Now let’s take a look at our World……… Absolute Location- is the exact location of a place on the earth’s surface. Ex: Seattle, WA Relative Location-the position of a place in relation to other places. Ex: Seattle is east of Bremerton.

Directions: Where am I is a constant question that is asked……we can answer this simply by knowing our directions

Latitude vs. Longitude Latitude are the lines that run parallel north or south of the equator Longitude are the lines that run parallel east or west of the prime meridian

The Year?????? Decade-refers to a ten year period Century-refers to a 100 year period Millennium-refers to a 1,000 year period

Timelines……. When reading a time line we often use terms such as B.C. and A.D. B.C.-refers to the time period before Christ -this time moves from higher numbers to lower numbers -i.e. 3,000 b.c. to 1 a.d.

Timelines Continued…… A.D. refers to the time after Christ’s Death. –A.D. or Anno Domini often refers to the time after the epoch or after Christ’s death –This time now moves in forward progression as we see it today…… –i.e. 1 A.D. to 1500 A.D. –Today we simply state our years such as 2010.

Geographic Themes Location- “Where is it?” Place- “What is it like?” Human/Environment interaction- “How does the relationship between people and their natural surroundings influence the way people live?” Movement- “How do people in one area relate to people in other areas?” Region- “What common characteristics does a certain area share?”
