ENERGY CONSERVATION & BUILDING STANDARDS Fred Hahn, Marian Huhman (Chair), Karl Helmink, Dhara Patel, Monica Chhatwani, Claudia Szczepaniak, Nishant Makhijani SWATeam Evaluation Report

Note: National Petascale Computing Facility is not included in the calculation Current Standing

Objective 1 Maintain or reduce the campus gross square footage relative to the FY10 baseline. ❏ New Policy Net Zero Growth Space Policy, Adopted July 2015

Objective 2 ❑ Updating facilities standards to incorporate 2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) following a state implementation assumed November 30 th, 2015. ❑ Estimated 7.6% energy savings from previous version  Identify the highest achievable energy standards for new buildings and major renovations, and incorporate these into the campus facility standards by the end of FY16.

Objective 3 Strengthen centralized conservation efforts focusing on building systems, to achieve a 30% reduction in total campus buildings energy use by FY20. This includes meeting the LED Campus commitments. ❏ Campus projects ❏ Retrocommissioning ❏ Revolving Loan Fund ❏ Energy Performance Contract projects ❏ Lighting retrofits

Objective 3 (continued) ❑ Used campus revolving loan fund ($750K) ❑ Annual utility bill was $2M. Expected of $500K (25%+ savings) ❑ Overall payback expected < 3 years Retrocommissioning (RCx) in ARC and CRCE

Objective 3 (continued) ❑ 1700 fume hoods on campus ❑ High efficiency fume hoods (60 fpm) ❑ Moving towards VAV systems ❑ Collaborative efforts needed Equipment Laboratory Ventilation Schemes

National Soybean Research Center First Floor - 3 fume hoods Third Floor - 21 fume hoods

Objective 4 Engage and incentivize the campus community in energy conservation, including a comprehensive energy conservation campaign, with at least 50% of units participating by FY20.

Objective 4 ❑ Campus-wide energy savings campaign ■Building level competitions? ❑ Certified Green Office Program ❑ Energy Conservation Incentive Program (ECIP)

Where Do We Go From Here? ❑ Master plan for energy conservation ❑ Broaden scope of campus energy saving projects

Campus Interests Intersect Maintenance Campus Projects Energy Conservation

Where Do We Go From Here? ❑ Continue laboratory/fume hood ❑ Energy Performance Contracts; e.g., Engineering and Chemistry ❑ Engage in IT energy savings ❑ Campus engagement … More investment is needed to see continued energy reductions.
