2. Objectives of the Meeting To share results and progress based on EENC Monitoring and Framework and Maternal Death Surveillance Review (MDSR). To identify opportunities and plan to improve monitoring progress in EENC through better data production, dissemination and use, including use of information and communication technology- enhanced solutions and To identify funding gaps and facilitate a dialogue on financing with development partners including the Global Financing Facility

3. EENC Progress Report by the Independent Review Team It is clear that there are significant issues to be addressed in terms of perception change, and program support – EENC scale-up readiness benchmarks – EENC roll-out – Hospital impact data – Population coverage of newborn interventions and – Newborn health impact And, that producing results requires a multi-sectoral response Health Coaching is “IN”, Training is “OUT”

4. Bi-lateral Country Dialogue Country “hostings” and “visits” was an alternative approach to discuss between countries the “Where are we now?” Current situation of the EENC implementation Current problems of EENC implementation Current health resources to include EENC Further, country exchange of EENC experiences in implementation (introduction or scale-up phases) & reviews provided additional inputs to devise a clear path from the current to the desired situation.

5. Through this meeting, immediate commitment and action is required…(1) An urgent meeting between key players to discuss outcomes of this meeting and the findings of the independent review on EENC in order to frame EENC strategy. It is the time for action. – Because this meeting has firmly established the need to explore how to better link EENC with other programs, ministry/department, partners – Because it is necessary to encourage more internal buy-in from senior management and communications/advocacies teams as well as from other stakeholders.

6. Through this meeting, immediate commitment and action is required… (2) – Because it has also been recognized that there is a need to better document and determine what works and where clear gaps exist. – Because there is also uncertainty about how to monitor/validate/scale-up especially over a short funding period. – Because there is a critical need for practical ‘how to’ guidelines -including agreed core M&E indicators available

7. …because EENC is a “journey” …..to a place we have never been before …. 2020 A healthy start for every newborn infant What is clear from this meeting is that there is an urgent need to address the gaps and challenges and that some of the solutions may come from exploring the links within the department /ministry, the external partners, community.
