High-energy mechanism. Pain over thigh/hip region. Pt unable to stand. Deformity, internal or external rotation of foot. Swelling, bruising, open wounds, S&S of shock. Signs & Symptoms Femur Fracture

Assess CSM at foot. Assess (at skin level) for any open wounds. Gently reduce any deformity (TIL). Re-check CSM. If no backboard: secure a long-leg fixation splint- leaving ankle exposed, extending past the pt’s waist to immobilize their hip. Treatment for Femur Fracture

Padded ankle or calf hitch Padded groin strap above thigh at pelvis Attach groin strap and ankle hitch to traction pole Replace manual traction with mechanical traction Use adjustable knots Pad between legs and secure together Continuously monitor the 5 P’s at ankle and foot Consider a Mechanical Traction Splint
