5 Why is working together as a team so important to being successful in business?

6 Today you will learn about the importance of teamwork in the successful operation of a business. Did you remember to sit with your business team?

9 “Teamwork” is the cooperative effort of members of a group to achieve the same goal.

11 What is it that made your team successful?

12 There is no “I” in “teamwork”. What does this saying mean?

13 In order to work effectively as a team, everyone needs to be committed to working together to accomplish the same overall goal.

14 Please open your workbook to page 68. You will have two minutes to work silently alone to come up with the names of as many businesses as you possibly can. Ready?............... Ready?............... Go! Go!

15 Stop! Which member of your team came up with the most names? Which member of your team came up with the most names?

16 Now combine your team members’ lists to one master list and count how many businesses your team thought of together. Some of you may have thought of the same businesses. Just count that business once.

17 It’s interesting to notice the different team strategies for making a master list. Which team was done first?

18 Which list is longer, the list of your top individual, or the team’s combined list?

19 “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” What does this mean?

20 The goal of every business team is to have a well run business, where every employee gets along well with each other.
