Rule of Thirds The sign is off to the left and to the top.

Centered Composition In this picture the sign is centered.

Lines There are lots of lines in this picture, both vertical and horizontal.

Framing The sign and the building form a frame around the tree.

Simplicity The background is very simple: it’s just snow.

Complicated Background It is hard to focus on just the parking sign because the background is very complicated.

Uncomplicated Background The background has nothing in it to distract you from the subject.

Viewpoint This picture is taken from an interesting angle.

Symmetry The two windows are symmetrical.

Depth The tree in the foreground gives the picture a sense of depth.

Horizon (one third) The ground takes up two thirds of the picture.

Horizon (two thirds) The ground only takes up one third of the picture and the sky and trees fill the other two thirds.

Choice I thought this was a cool picture because the pillars give the picture depth and act as lines as well.

Questions Describe how your eye as a photographer has changed from the beginning of the course until now. I’m better at looking for proper composition in photos now, when I couldn’t before. Describe how learning about the rules of composition has helped develop your photography skills. The rules are very important to keep in mind when taking a picture. I now realize the importance of not centering a subject, as well as using unusual angles. Of the composition rules, which has been most influential on your photography? Explain and describe an example. I think the most influential has been using unusual viewpoints.
