Luigi Colani. By Laura Wallis.
2
Basic Facts. Luigi Colani was born in Berlin, Germany. He was born in 1928. He is now 80 and a very established designer of furniture, cars, trucks, clothes, architecture and products. He uses a style known as bio-dynamics, this style means using smooth or rounded lines, futuristic and based around speed. He now lives and works from Karlsruhe, Germany. His design work is award winning and most is on display in various museums around the world also on the roads today.

His life. Luigi Colani grew up as any child would but it seemed clear he knew what he wanted to do. In 1946 he studied sculpture, then aerodynamics in 1948. He since has designed many things making himself world famous. He is most known for his cars, trucks and other transport designs. Very much like other designers he bases his work on the world around him sticking to his motto: The earth is round, all the heavenly bodies are round; they all move on round or elliptical orbits. This same image of circular globe-shaped mini worlds orbiting around each other follows us right down to the microcosmos. We are even aroused by round forms in species propagation related eroticism. Why should I join the straying mass who want to make everything angular? I am going to pursue Galileo Galilei`s philosophy: my world is also round.
