1 Physical Features and Countries of Latin America

2 Amazon River  The Amazon is the second longest river in the world and the longest in Latin America.  This water way borders the Amazon rainforest located in South America.

3 Andes Mountains  The Andes in the longest Mountain chain in South America.  This Mountain chain has the highest elevation in South America.

4 Caribbean Sea  The Caribbean Sea is a part of the Atlantic Ocean.  Haiti and many other Caribbean, Central American and South American countries are located in or border this sea.

5 Atacama Desert  The Atacama is the dries land area in South America.  It has the lowest amount of rainfall in South America

6 Gulf of Mexico  This body of water is located between Cuba and the United States southern border.  It forms the eastern border of Mexico.

7 Pacific Ocean  The Pacific is a large body of water located west of Mexico.  It forms the west coast of South America.

8 Panama Canal  The Panama canal is a man-made feature cut through the country of Panama.  It separates North and South America.  It connects Central and South America.

9 Sierra Madre Mountains  The Sierra Madre are the major mountain range in Central America.  Located in Mexico, it is the main cause of pollution in Mexico City.

11 Bolivia  Borders the Atacama Desert  Located at the Southwestern border of Brazil.

12 Brazil  Most of the rainforest is located in this country.  The only country in Latin America where Portuguese is the official language.

13 Colombia  Forms the southern border of Panama.  Point where Central America and South America connects.  Borders Brazil and Peru

14 Cuba  The closest Latin American country to the United States but doesn’t border it.  Cuba is largest island country in the Carribean.

15 Haiti  Located southeast of Cuba.  Haiti is located on the an island called Hispaniola.  It shares the island with the Dominican Republic.

16 Mexico  Located in North America and shares a border with the USA.  Has major air pollution problems.

17 Panama  The Panama canal was built through the isthmus of Panama.  Location where large ships move between the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans.

18 Venezuela  Major oil producing country.  Located east of Colombia.
