Stephen F Austin SFA arrived in Mexico City and waited for Santa Anna While he waited he wrote a letter to Anglo officials encouraging Texans to form their own government

Santa Anna Became president of Mexico Finally arrived in Mexico City after SFA had been waiting for three months Agreed to some of the reforms SFA requested – Denied separate statehood – Repealed US immigration

Reforms Begin in Texas 1834 Reforms Santa Anna promised began – English was official language for transactions – Allowed immigration from the US – Increased the number of Anglo representatives – Religious tolerance was accepted

The Consultation of 1835 Discussion between two different groups of Anglo settlers Peace Party: – Feared the consultation would cause trouble – Felt the Mexican government was acting fair War Party: – Disappointed in the Mexican government – Favored immediate independence from Mexico
