United for Peace in Asia and the Pacific: Strengthening and Expanding Regional Human Security and Peace

The integration into the curriculum must include the following teaching points: Understanding and respecting diversity Building solidarity and empathy Human dignity and human responsibility Conflict mediation and resolution Sustainable development Human Security and Peace in Asia and the Pacific The project aims to integrate Human Security and Peace activities into University Curriculum to ensure that reflections on human security and peaceful living among students of the region are sustained in the long term.

To embed the ideas of human security and peaceful living into formal, informal, and non-formal infrastructures relevant to youth of the region; To facilitate the networking of students and teachers across the region for the purposes of exchanging ideas on human security and peaceful living, building solidarity, and enhancing understanding; To expand existing activities into other schools and universities in the region; and To promote and publicize recommended exemplary human security and peace activities to policy makers. Expected Outcomes Development of university curriculum resource materials with embedded human security and peace promotion activities. Establishment of the human security and peace network of university educators as a forum for the exchange of ideas, and the continual development of curriculum with integrated human security and peace promotion components. Consultations with students in the design of curriculum must be firmly established. Expand the integration of human security and peace activities into other areas of the university curriculum (i.e. economics, engineering, sciences, etc) through the Region Human Security and Peace Network of University Educators.

Participants University administrators and educators have to commit to integrate human security and peace activities into the academic curriculums. Participants of the regional training workshop will also become the core group of the Human Security and Peace Network of University Educators. Participants have to bring with them the existing documents and material related to the human security and peace activities to the training workshop. The issues should relate, but not be limited, to: understanding and respecting diversity; building solidarity and empathy; human dignity and human responsibility; conflict mediation and resolution; and sustainable development.

Teaching Materials (Lesson Plans, Audio aids) Introduction to concept of Human Security, Peace, Ethics and related issues. Human Security in the Asia-Pacific – Central Asia, South Asia, South-East Asia, etc. Environmental Security – environmental ethics, disasters in each region – case study) Political Security – political ethics, ethnic conflict, conflict of interest issues Food security – hunger, poverty issues Economic security – wealth, equality, socioeconomic mobility, etc. Others
