4 Mrs. Aucoin’s Classroom Rules 1. Be on time. 2. Bring all materials to class. 3. Raise your hand to ask a question. 4. Remain quiet during announcements. 5. Do not pack up until the teacher instructs you to do so. 6. Be kind and respectful to your classmates and teacher. 7. Clean up your area before leaving the room.

5 Rewards and Consequences Rewards for good behavior: 1. Cane Cash 2. Verbal praise or a positive note/email sent home. 3. A treat or trinket. 4. 10 minutes of reading or computer time. Consequences for inappropriate behavior: 1. Warning 2. Sign teacher behavior log with a short reflection. 3. Long reflection/Parent contacted 4. Referral **A major disruption may result in an immediate referral.** **Students should contribute to the learning environment and not disrupt the learning atmosphere of the classroom.**

6 Grading Grading is on a weighted basis as follows: English Literature Classwork/Tests80%Classwork/Tests60% Exam20%Reading Counts10% Achieve 300010% Exam20% An “X” in JPAMS means that the assignment is missing and needs to be made up. An “0” in JPAMS means the student chose not to do the assignment.

7 Tests/Make-up Work A vocabulary test will be given every two weeks, generally on Fridays. If a student is absent, he or she should check the absent folder in the classroom. Students are generally given two days to complete and turn in assignments.

8 Reading Counts & Achieve 3000 Students should have a book to read for SSR each day. Library –twice a month (Wed.) Reading Reflections due every other Friday. Students should take RC tests and earn assigned points each nine weeks. 11 UNIT ONE- Short Stories This unit will focus on the art of storytelling. Students will read a series of short stories that connect to the anchor text. Through a close look at the key ideas and details of each of the stories presented, the students will gain the ability to comprehend at a deeper level, which will be assessed through numerous informational/explanatory essays. Vocabulary studies will be an essential part of this unit, and several strategies will be presented. The students will also be exposed to visual depictions of plays and will research the elements of drama, comparing and contrasting these styles of prose writing. This culminating activity will serve as a segue into unit four.
