1. Textile Designer Report: William Morris By Andrew Simmons

2. Early Life Morris was born on March 24 th, 1834. He was born in the town of Clay Hill, Walthamstow. Morris was born in an estate referred to as the Elm House, this being his father’s suburban residence. He was surrounded by nature as a child and this would influence his art for the rest of his life.

3. Beginning of Adulthood Morris went to Exeter College, Oxford in the Summer of 1852. This is an important time in his life because he meets his lifelong friend and business partner, Edward Burne-Jones here. Edward Burne-Jones came from a middle class family and this fascinated Morris.

4. The Design Firm * Before 1862, Morris had an idea for a design firm that specialized in home décor, and was made up of a group of artists This dream became a reality, and “Morris, Marshall, Faulkner, and Company” became a firm for artistic home décor and furniture. 1862- Design firms first exhibition.

5. Works Knotted rugs, glassware, painted windows, printed woven cotton textiles, wallpapers, and printed furniture.
