2 Analyze  Study a topic closely, break a topic down into smaller parts.

3 Bar Graph  The pictorial display of a set of data using bars to indicate the value, amount or size of the dependent variable for each level of the independent variable tested. Usually the taller the bar, the greater the value of the dependent variable.

5 Conclusion  A summary of what is learned from an experiment.  The last section of a report of an experiment, it states the purpose, major findings, hypothesis, and recommendations for further study.

6 Constant  All of the factors or conditions that must be kept the same in an experiment.

7 Control Group  The group treated normal to which the experimental group is compared. Factors that are fixed in an experiment.

11 Dependent Variable  The dependent variable is what you measure or observe to obtain your results.  Is found on the y-axis of a graph and in the left column of a data collection table.

21 Intervals  The equal size values represented by the equal spaces marked along the axis of a graph.

22 Line Graph  A pictorial display of data that can be drawn when the data for both variables are continuous data. The line in a line graph shows the relationship between the independent and dependent variables.

24 Mass  A measure of the amount of matter in an object.

25 Mean (Average)  One of the measures of central tendency (average); the sum of numbers in a set of data divided by the number of pieces of data.

33 Repeated Trials  Repeating measurements several times. The more measurements made the more reliable the results.

34 SI System of Measurement  The International System of Units is the modern form of the metric system and is generally a system of units of measurement devised around seven base units and the convenience of the number ten. It is the world's most widely used system of measurement, both in everyday commerce and in science.

37 Testable Question  A question that is answered through a scientific investigation.

45 x-Axis  The line along the bottom of a graph on which the scale for the independent variable is placed.

46 y - Axis  The vertical line drawn on the left side of a graph on which the scale for the dependent variable is placed.
