What is pottery? -The act of making a pot or a clay body used for daily life or decoration. -its made by forming a clay body into a required shape.

Historical aspects. -during the Axumit empire. -created decorative and functional pots -the potters were all woman.

-The Falasha jew people of northern Ethiopia had traditions of creating little statues. -the potters then mold the shape decorated them with expressive eyes and lips.

Pottery making techniques -they used molds to make big pots. -they made the molds from leather, basket or Large holes dug in the ground. -there was no pottery wheel. -they used flat surface.

Ethiopian pottery design/ decoration -Once the piece is shaped and dried, decoration takes place. -straight line in v-shapes -horizontal series of rings around the pot.
