SHP Responsibilities at a Crash Scene Move vehicles/incident out of travel lane(s) if possible… Investigate Collision (Secure evidence/impact debris; tire impressions; witness statements; photographs; determine responsible parties and make arrest(s) if applicable.) Position patrol vehicle in a manner so as to prevent any further injury or collisions… Check for injuries and request any additional medical or law enforcement personnel to respond for assistance….

SHP Responsibilities at a Crash Scene Notify Communications Center of lane closure(s) (number of lanes and estimated time of closure) **Ensure that State Traffic Operations Center (STOC) and MRTMC are notified of any and all lane closures** Contact towing professional for disabled/abandoned vehicles to clear travel lane(s)…determine strategy for clearing vehicle(s) from travel lane Implement detour route if necessary…

SHP Responsibilities at a Crash Scene Contact any other necessary resources to assist with extended on scene investigations (i.e. Red Cross; City Transit System; District Attorney; Clergy; etc.) Certain incidents may require additional resources. First responders should think outside of the box regarding the resources available to them in their specific area – Mass casualties – Patrol car collisions involving fatalities – Incidents involving government dignitaries

SHP Responsibilities at a Crash Scene Set up On-Scene Command Post to manage incident and/or establish offsite meeting area for family/friends of victims to reduce the number of individuals responding to the incident
