4 The Office Policy Manual
A policy manual is different than a procedure manual. Procedure manuals cover step-by-step directions for job procedures. A policy manual dictates general practices and policies in an office.

5 Recruiting and Hiring Office Personnel
Define criteria for applicant by working up a job description Recruiting Reading resumes

6 The Interview An interview worksheet is an excellent tool to use to make certain that you are fair with each candidate. Ask name, phone number, education and training, work experience, special skills, professional demeanor and general impressions, voice and mannerisms, responses to questions regarding work habits, ability to problem solve when given a scenario, interviewer’s impressions and recommendations. Questions not to ask: Medical history, drug use, arrest records, age, sex, race, religion, sexual preference.

7 Selecting Finalists/Hiring
Compare notes and impressions. Take into account ability of candidates to be flexible regarding cultural backgrounds !! Check References !! At time of offer, candidate must know: Salary offered Starting date Practice policies and benefits
