14 Motivation The 7.9 magnitude earthquake shook eastern Sichuan in China on Monday, May 12, 2008. At least 69,185 people killed, including thousands of school children. As a design student from China, I have a strong feeling that I need to use my skills to help people from my motherland, especially the children. The biggest problem is it’s very difficult to test with my users. Indoor: DROP to the ground; take COVER by getting under a sturdy table or other piece of furniture; and HOLD ON on until the shaking stops. Stay inside until shaking stops and it is safe to go outside. Outdoor: Move away from buildings, streetlights, and utility wires. Once in the open, stay there until the shaking stops. In a moving vehicle: Stop as quickly as safety permits and stay in the vehicle. Avoid stopping near or under buildings, trees, overpasses, and utility wires. Research What to do during an earthquake?
