9. Activities 1. Read through page 194 to note down different types of structural unemployment. 2. In pairs, discuss, agree and write down answers to question 2 (p 194).

11.  One academic study published in 2001 found that  “ Redundancy ranks behind only bereavement and divorce as a life- disrupting event. Even once the immediate trauma is past, the damage persists.”

12.  Unemployment has costs not only for individuals and their families, but also for local communities, taxpayers and indeed the whole economy.  Working in pairs, use the information on pages 195 and 196 to consider this hypothesis – “The social costs of unemployment are far more serious than the economic costs.”  Report your conclusions back to the rest of the class
