PG. 50-55 Cellular Respiration and Fermentation
2
Cellular Respiration Cells breakdown glucose (from photosynthesis), in the presence of oxygen to release energy. Cellular Energy is called ATP (adenosine triphosphate) Respiration = breathing
3
Stage One Occurs in the cytoplasm of the cell Molecules of glucose are broken down Oxygen is not involved A small amount of energy is released
4
Stage Two Occurs in the mitochondria Glucose is broken down even more Requires Oxygen and even more energy is released Carbon dioxide is released Mitochondria are called the powerhouses of the cell because of this.
5
Chemical Equation
6
Cellular Respiration Getting Energy How does the hiker's energy and breathing rate change as she climbs?
7
Cellular Respiration Complete the concept map about cellular respiration. Cellular Respiration
8
Releasing Energy Cellular respiration takes place in two stages. What terms will complete the sentences?
9
Opposite Processes Producers carry out photosynthesis, but producers and consumers both carry out cellular respiration. Use the word bank to complete the blank boxes. Cellular Respiration
10
Fermentation A ball of bread dough mixed with yeast is left in a bowl at room temperature. As time passes, the dough increases in size. Cellular Respiration
