1 Joseph & his Strategic Plan
Genesis 41: 14 – 57 through 47

2 Case Study Abouna asked our Class to prepare Hamburger Sandwiches to all the course, to be distributed at the end of the day, next Sunday. How are we going to proceed to fulfill his request

3 Vision The picture of the future you want to create
Long-term goal of strategy. Where you "see" yourself being; where you want to go?

4 Vision: Salvation from The Famine
Joseph displays a number of the characteristics of visionary leaders. Although his prayer life is not specifically mentioned, 41:38 tells us that the Egyptians perceived the Spirit of God to be upon Joseph. Joseph understood strategic leadership begins with a clear vision of what God is doing (Gen 41: 25, 32). A person with that vision sees first, sees farthest and sees fullest. Visionary leaders are prayerful, they are aware of God’s prompting, and able to translate vision into action. They need to be able to communicate the vision to others, and be personally committed to it. They will need to persevere through hardship.

5 Mission Mission will turn your vision into practice.
The Mission is the one that will actually do the work. What you do to get there?

6 Mission: How to Survive The Famine
Let Pharaoh select a discerning and wise man, and set him over the land of Egypt.   Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, To collect one-fifth of the produce of the land of Egypt in the seven plentiful years.  And let them gather all the food of those good years that are coming, and store up grain under the authority of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.   Then that food shall be as a reserve for the land for the seven years of famine which shall be in the land of Egypt, that the land may not perish during the famine.”

7 Mission: How to Survive The Famine
His appointment as principal minister over Egypt, and the degree to which he was able to prepare the land to withstand the famine are testimony to Joseph's ability to communicate God's plan in a compelling way. That the implications of the vision were to last for fourteen years demonstrates the length of commitment involved in carrying out preparations ahead of the famine. Such long term preparation and planning would require a very practical approach to complement the spiritual and prophetic ability that he had displayed earlier.

8 SMART Objectives The specific intended result of a strategy
Objectives have to be SMART, i.e. Specific, Measurable. Achievable, Realistic, Time Framed

9 SMART Objectives Look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt….. SMART Let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land (20%) of Egypt in the 7 plenteous years. ….. SMART Gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh. . ….. SMART And let them keep food in the cities. . ….. SMART This food shall be for store to the land against the 7 years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not through the famine . ….. SMART

10 Input Resources (funds, labor, time, equipment, space, technology etc.) used to produce outputs and outcomes.

11 Input Joseph gathered very much grain, as the sand of the sea, until he stopped counting, for it was immeasurable. (Gen 41: 49) officers over the land,  take up the fifth part of the land (20%) of Egypt

12 Output Products and services delivered. Outputs are the immediate products of internal activity

13 Output The grain was stored in the cities (41:35) and thus could be more efficiently distributed there.  Surviving the famine

14 Outcome A description of the intended result, effect, or consequence that will occur from carrying out an action or activity. . The end result that is sought

15 Outcome Joseph was recognized and given authority
(Genesis 47:13-26): The ownership of the land in Egypt changed hands—that is, all the land except that being acquired by the Israelites (verse 27) or maintained by the priests, who were supported (like the Israelites) by Pharaoh (verse 22).

16 Impact Changes in outcomes ,where there may be many other influences on outcomes.

17 Impact The Joseph Strategy became a salvation not only to the land of Egypt and the neighboring lands , but to his own family.  For his brothers showed up at his throne in Egypt - begging for food.  After much dialogue and interaction, Joseph helped his family and eventually directed them to bring Dad and the entire family to Egypt, so that he could care for them there.  The rejected, despised brother is now their savior, because the Lord was with him.
