Southern Reconstruction The end of the civil war caused complicated issues and dilemmas for Americans during the Reconstruction Era. After the Confederacy was defeated, Southern states were devastated physically and economically. Millions of slaves were now free and looked at with hatred and loathsome.

Economy Southern states were entirely dependant on slaves. After emancipation there were no jobs for whites or blacks. Cotton was the main export and was drastically reduced after the civil war.

What it Took To finally end slavery it took the invasion of the South by the North. It also took the passage of the thirteenth amendment

Difficulties Even though slavery has ended the hate has not. Hate against African Americans did not stop. It took much longer then the emancipation.

Racism Today Even though slavery has ended the hate crimes have not. Groups such as the kkk were formed. Even after slavery was emancipated they still found themselves fighting for freedom.
